NYC Outfits | Winter Edition

NYC Outfits | Winter Edition

I know, I know. Spring is right around the corner, so close we can taste it. Literally, the universe is giving us little previews now and then. And as exciting as that may be for basically everyone else that doesn’t live in Arizona, well, I’m happy for you but what that means to us, is that summer is that much closer. Even without all of that though, I’m a winter girl at heart. Layers, coats, jackets, and boots are just my thing. So I don’t miss an opportunity to bring those bad boys out when it’s time. my closet is 97% winter clothes and the average temperature here is like 75 degrees. So that’s where we are.

Valentine’s Day has a whole new meaning around here now that I have a little girl around. Kevin and I have been together almost 10 years and he’s always made sure that Valentine’s Day was a special time to celebrate us. In the past, we loved to travel and dine out, while occasionally staying home and doing something special here. We LOVE to celebrate our favorite holiday of the year. It’s always go big or go home around here and that’s why we choose Ferrero Golden Gallery Signature chocolates every time.

Current Classic Winter Style

Current Classic Winter Style

This winter my closet has been more focused on classic pieces that I can wear for years to come. I have pretty much done away with anything fast fashion, and I am adding things to my closet that actually make me happy to look at. I find myself more drawn to quality fabrics that feel nice and look good hanging beside one another.

On Brand; notes

On Brand; notes

A few months ago I talked with a John Hancock adviser about finances. A topic that I literally avoid at all cost. This year has toughened me up a bit and I realized it was time. I’m so happy that I finally did that, because it wasn’t that scary after all. I realized I never truly had education in that area and it was time to do a little organizing.

This inspired something bigger in me, though. I realized that I had been treating other parts of my business and my life like I had been treating my finances. Sure, I would buy nice things here and there, but nothing in my closet felt like me. The rise of fast fashion truly sucked me in. I’m not sure when it happened, but I think it was right after having Nixon and nothing would fit. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on clothes, so I was turning to fast fashion clothing to make me feel better about myself. That landed me here… mountains of clothing that is just not me. Lots of things that just do not spark joy.

8 Daily Tweaks That Make Your Life Better

8 Daily Tweaks That Make Your Life Better

A few tweaks to my daily routine has helped me find a little more inner peace. I used to make time for all sorts of daily rituals that make me happy like reading, meditating, yoga, taking a bath, or going for a walk. However, having a kid really does throw a wrench in things (a good wrench, but a wrench nonetheless). Most of your day is highly unpredictable, making organization feel like a foreign country. So something as simple as scheduling in a few moments to yourself may help you like it does me.

Happy Egg Co. Heritage Breed

Feeding my family nutritious food is a no-brainer. I love teaching Nixon about the healthiest and freshest options when it comes to eating! Heritage Breed eggs by Happy Egg are some of the freshest eggs I've ever tasted! But equally important is the sustainability of our foods. Happy Egg thrives under natural conditions and come from several small family farms throughout Missouri and Arkansas.

Packing for Napa

Packing for Napa

Napa is one of my favorite places to visit. And depending on what time of year it is, it’s so fun to pack for! I love visiting when the weather is on the warmer side, but not too warm! So, spring and fall end up being the perfect time for me to go. But even in the summer, the nights can be brisk. So I always recommend packing a layer or two. Soft, light and flowy sweaters are perfect for any time of year and can easily be taken off. Even though the weather is cold in the winter, it’s still NAPA and it’s still magical, just remember to pack accordingly.

I’ve put together a little packing guide so that you don’t forget a thing.

I love to cook but honestly, I’m just not that great at it. My two worlds collided on this day when one of my very favorite restaurants taught me to cook their signature meal!

Women Supporting Women

Women Supporting Women

2018 was a big year for women. In a lot of ways, it may have been the best year in the history of women – ever. Last year brought increased attention to the Gender Gap in the workplace, breaking through the Glass Ceiling, pay inequality and of course, the #metoo movement. The result is that women continue to encompass more and more leadership roles within executive teams, company Boards and politics, there is a spotlight on unequal pay and there’s accountability and consequence for bad behavior from powerful people that abuse that power. Much of this attention focuses on men behaving badly and there’s no denying that it can be difficult as a woman to feel like you’re on a level playing field sometimes. When men behave badly in a professional setting, it can range from simply being over-patronizing to downright predatory. But in my opinion, there’s another issue at hand, one which can be just as damaging for women that isn’t often discussed because it’s, put simply, harder to pinpoint. And that is when women fail to support other women.
