If you're like me, you're always looking for a way to improve your wrinkles and fine lines without any downtime. Micro-needling is a quick (and painless, might I add) procedure that will give you smoother, firmer, and younger looking skin. NO, really. And the device I use costs less than $15. THIS IS NOT AN AD. This is life-changing.

Micro-needling (AKA collagen induction therapy) boosts collagen production and strengthens the skin. The act of micro-needling is tiny needles being passed/rolled over the skin, the needles create micro “injuries” to create new collagen. Each little "injury" creates a channel that triggers the body to produce new collagen and elastin to fill the microscopic wound. The good news is that great results come in a short period of time! The procedure involves the use of a device that contains fine needles.  Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. Microneedling is a safe, chemical-free method that triggers new collagen production,” says Beverly Hills, Calif, nurse and aesthetic trainer Sylvia Silvestri, RN. “Because it can be performed on all skin colors and types, it is sometimes the preferred treatment over laser as there is no risk of burning the patient.”

Benefits of Micro-Needling

Reduces Wrinkles and Fine Lines

The loss of elastin and collagen causes thinning, sagging skin, and OMG...facial wrinkles. Micro-needling stimulates the production of your own natural elastin and collagen which in turn reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin will start look more youthful in a very short period of time. There's also no "down" time... and it doesn't cost a million dollars.

Improves Scars

The micro-needling procedure breaks down old tissue and triggers the production of new elastin and collagen for healthier skin. I've been using it on my tattoo removal scars and the tiny little acne scars on my face. I can tell a BIG HUGE difference in just a few short weeks. It's kind of insane.

Reduces Appearance of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are one of those things that just don't go away. Micro-needling, however, has been shown to improve the appearance of stretch marks when done properly and consistently.

Prevents Signs of Aging

Micro-needling is anti-aging in itself... but combine it with the right products and you are onto something. I rub on my skin brightening serums before and after I micro-needle. This helps them to penetrate even deeper causing them to be more effective.

Micro-needling has proved to be a simple and fast method for safely treating wrinkles and scars. Because the skin remains intact, this procedure can be repeated safely.

Finding the right device

This is where I admit that I've been using a micro-needling device that only costs $13. Get yours here: DERMA ROLLER -- yes, I do it myself. I am a licensed skin professional BUT you don't have to be. This little guy is super easy to use.

Each design has some advantages, and personal preference determines operator selection. There are also flat-edged tips versus beveled tips. Current devices range from mechanical to manual models with shorter needle lengths designed for home use to rollers or stamps with longer needles designed for skin professionals only.
