Drink more water. I know you probably hear this one all the time, but it’s so important and there’s so many reasons why. Basically, just keep in mind that the more water you drink, the better you will feel. Water can flush toxins out, keep you feeling fuller longer, give you energy and more. It’s just plain good for you, so why not make a daily effort to drink more of it?
Eat more veggies. Veggies may sometimes get neglected in our diet but this year, let’s make a conscious effort to eat much more of them on a daily basis. They really should take up a good portion of your plate at every meal and for good reason! They provide nutrients that your body needs and can help maintain your overall health.
Go to bed earlier. This is easier said than done depending on how your schedule plays out everyday. However, on days where you do find yourself up late binge watching Netflix or on social media, just turn it all off and decide to go to sleep instead. Getting a good amount of rest every night is so important as it has an impact on your health and just general everyday performance.
Wake up a little earlier. Make it a point to set your alarm for a little earlier, and actually wake up on the first alarm. Just giving yourself a few extra minutes in the morning to sit and drink coffee, journal, sit & pet your dog, etc. can be so beneficial. I promise your overall day will run more smoothly if it started off nice and easy.
Know that it’s okay to say “no” to things sometimes. This is something I think lots of people, including myself, struggle with. It’s easy to take on too much at once and end up feeling constantly overwhelmed. Make it a point to decide what is most important each day and remember that saying “no” to other things is okay sometimes.
Make exercising a priority. It’s so important to work daily exercise into your schedule. Even if you only have 15 minutes a day, or have to do a workout from home, it will still help immensely. Daily exercise will not only improve your overall health, but it can also relieve stress, boost your mood and help you sleep better!
Take breaks from social media. Carve out time in each day to put your phone and laptop away and enjoy some time without the screen. Read a book, walk your dog, cook that new recipe you’ve been wanting to try, etc. Make an effort to enjoy other aspects of life, technology free!
Schedule time to pamper yourself once a week. This is one of my favorite things to do. Every Sunday I make it a point to give myself an hour or two of “me time”. I’ll take a bath, put on a face and hair mask, get my nails done, or anything else that makes me feel a little more put together. This time is so important as it gives me a chance to relax and get ready for the coming week.
Wear sunscreen everyday. I can’t stress this one enough, daily sunscreen is so important even if you don’t spend your day outdoors. The sun gives off harmful rays, even in a matter of a few minutes. So do yourself and your skin a favor, and take an extra 30 seconds every morning to put sunscreen first.
Spend more time outside. So many of us get caught up indoors all day, every day. This is too bad because the outdoors can be so relaxing, and yes, as long as you have sunscreen on, some Vitamin D is totally good for you. Not to mention that spending time outdoors can potentially reduce stress, restore energy and encourage creativity!
