no gluten in phoenix

Have you guys heard of Jewel's Bakery in Phoenix? Owner Julie Moreno's daughter was diagnosed with severe gluten allergies back in 2009... and Julie quickly found out that the readily available gluten-free foods were LACKING in every sense of the word, SO she started making her own (she IS an award-winning chef, after all!). She was filling orders out of her house for a while but word spread quickly and she opened up Jewel's! (Lucky us!)

Jewel's offers breads, desserts, donuts and lots lots more. Always using fresh ingredients and local when possible. Jewel's has been serving breakfast and lunch with Cartel coffee and local teas, but on Friday they rolled out a brand new dinner menu. GET EXCITED. Cocktails and delicious comfort food you can feel good about? SIGN ME UP.

My husband and I got to try most of the delicious new dinner foods on Thursday night and they did not disappoint. My readers know that I test all "health" foods on my husband, Kevin. So I knew I had to take him with me for this tasting because the true test ALWAYS lies with him. He has not stopped raving about the short rib dish (and just being shocked in general that he liked the gluten-free food).

what's for dinner

Red Wine Braised Short Ribs

Heaven. Extremely tender and juicy with creamy polenta and crispy brussel sprouts. We are going back ASAP for this one.

Green Chili Cornbread Waffle

You would NEVER know that the waffle was gluten-free. It was so light and fluffy and full of delicious flavor. It paired extremely well with the pulled pork; two foods I would have never put together.

Buffalo Cauliflower Wings

Yes. The cauliflower was battered in a tempura like batter. Light, fluffy, DEFINITELY not the usual gluten-free batter I'm used to. SO DELICIOUS. And guilt-free.

Cardamom Peach Croustade

By the time we reached dessert we were FULL. However, we couldn't help but devour this! It was full of flavor and and tasted so so fresh. Nothing like a fresh peach dessert on a hot summer day.

...and a lot more!
